Frequently asked questions

What is a thread ceremony called in different languages?

Upanayanam or upanayana in Sanskrit and South India, janeu sanskar or yagnopavit sanskar in Hindi, janoi (જનોઈ) in Gujarati and munja in Marathi. All refer to the same sacred thread ceremony.

How do I write a janeu ceremony invitation?

Mention the boy's name with 'Chi.', the parents' names, the date and muhurat time, the venue and lunch. For example: "Respected {{name}} ji, we invite you and your family to the sacred thread ceremony of our son Chi. Vedant on 21 January at 8 am."

Yes. Most families now send the janoi card on WhatsApp. With Rapid Sender every relative gets the card from your own number with their name in the message and on the card.

About 10 to 15 days before, with a reminder the evening before because the ceremony starts early.
