What is a WhatsApp QR code?
A WhatsApp QR code is a normal QR code that holds a wa.me click-to-chat link. wa.me is WhatsApp’s own public feature: a link like https://wa.me/919876543210 opens a chat with that number, without the customer having to save it first. When someone points their phone camera at the code, the phone offers to open the link, WhatsApp starts, and the chat with you is ready.
If you add a message, it is put inside the link too, so the customer’s message box is already filled in – for example “Hi, I want to order from your menu”. They only have to press send. That makes the first message easy for them and tells you exactly why they are writing.
This generator builds the link and draws the QR code right in your browser. Your number is not sent to any server, there is no sign-up, and the code never expires: it is just your link, so it keeps working as long as your number is on WhatsApp.
How to make your WhatsApp QR code
- 1
Choose the country code
India (+91) is picked for you. Search by country name or code if your number is from somewhere else.
- 2
Type your WhatsApp number
Enter the mobile number without the country code. Spaces, dashes and a leading 0 are cleaned up for you.
- 3
Add a ready-typed message (optional)
Write what the customer should send, like “Hi, I saw your board and want to know the price”. Keep it short.
- 4
Pick a size, colour and caption
Small suits screens, Medium a visiting card or flyer, Large a poster or counter stand. Black scans best; blue or green match your brand. The caption under the code tells people what it does.

Download the PNG and test it
Press Download PNG to save a print-ready image with a white margin. Scan it once with your own phone before you print.
Where to use your WhatsApp QR code
Shop counter and billing desk: customers scan to order again, ask for home delivery or send a payment screenshot.
Visiting cards: a small code on the back saves people typing your number – it opens a chat straight away.
Flyers, posters and newspaper inserts: add a message like “Hi, I saw your Diwali offer” so you know which flyer brought the lead.
Restaurant tables: “Hi, I want to see today’s menu” or “Table 4 – please send the bill” in the message.
Clinics, coaching classes and real estate sites: a code at the reception for appointments, batch details or a site visit.
Product packaging and delivery bags: a code for reorders, feedback or after-sales help.
Tips for a code that scans every time
Always test-scan the downloaded image with two different phones before you print hundreds of copies.
Print it big enough: at least 2 cm × 2 cm on a visiting card, 5 cm or more on a flyer, and 10 cm or more on a poster or counter stand read from a distance.
Keep the white margin around the code – it is part of what the camera looks for. Do not crop it off or place the code on a busy photo.
Dark code on a light background only. Black scans best; avoid light colours like yellow or pale grey.
Keep the ready-typed message short. A very long message makes the code denser and harder to scan when printed small.
Use the Medium or Large size for print. Small is meant for screens like a WhatsApp status or an Instagram story.
Frequently asked questions
Is this WhatsApp QR code generator free?
Yes. It is free with no sign-up and no watermark. The code holds a wa.me link, which is WhatsApp’s own free click-to-chat feature.
Does the QR code expire?
No. The code simply contains your link, so it keeps working as long as the number has WhatsApp. Nothing depends on this website staying online.
Can I add a message to the QR code?
Yes. Type it in the message box and it is put inside the link. When someone scans the code, the message is already typed in their chat with you.
Will it work with WhatsApp Business?
Yes. Click-to-chat links and the QR codes made from them work with both WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business numbers.
Why does my QR code say the number is not on WhatsApp?
Usually the country code is wrong or missing, or there is an extra 0. Check the code and number, then scan it again before printing.
