Abandoned Cart WhatsApp Messages for Online Stores

An abandoned cart WhatsApp message is a short, friendly reminder to a customer who opted in to WhatsApp and left items in their cart. Below are 45 templates for cart reminders, cash-on-delivery confirmations, back-in-stock alerts and price drops, using {{name}}, {{product}}, {{amount}}, {{order_id}} and {{cart_link}}, plus tips on honest urgency and how to send them from an exported list.

Updated · Free · No install · Works with your own WhatsApp

First: only message customers who opted in

Typing a phone number at checkout is not the same as agreeing to marketing on WhatsApp. Send cart reminders only to customers who ticked a clear box such as "Send me order updates and reminders on WhatsApp", or who started the conversation with you there. Messaging everyone who left a number is how stores get reported, and enough reports can get a WhatsApp number restricted.

Rapid Sender has no store integration, no API and no automatic triggers – it does not watch your shop for abandoned carts. The workflow is manual: export abandoned checkouts from your store dashboard (Shopify, WooCommerce and most platforms offer this), keep only the opted-in customers, and send from that sheet once or twice a day.

First cart reminder (1 to 4 hours later)

The first reminder is a helpful nudge, not a sales push. Name the product, give the link back to the cart and offer help – many carts are abandoned because of a question about size, delivery or payment.

Placeholders are columns in your export: {{name}} the customer, {{product}} the main item, {{amount}} the cart total and {{cart_link}} the recovery link.

  1. Friendly

    Hi {{name}}, you left {{product}} in your cart. It's still saved for you here: {{cart_link}}. Any questions about size or delivery? Just reply!

  2. Helpful

    Hi {{name}}, did something stop you from finishing your order? If you had trouble at checkout, reply here and we'll help you complete it.

  3. Short

    Hi {{name}}, your cart is waiting: {{product}}, {{amount}}. Finish your order here: {{cart_link}}

  4. Question

    Hi {{name}}, saw you were looking at {{product}}. Can I help with anything – sizing, colours or delivery times?

  5. Personal

    Hi {{name}}, it's {{sender}} from the shop. I noticed {{product}} is still in your cart. Happy to answer any questions before you decide.

  6. Payment trouble

    Hi {{name}}, it looks like your payment for {{amount}} didn't go through. You can try again here: {{cart_link}}, or reply to pay by another method.

  7. Delivery info

    Hi {{name}}, just so you know: if you order {{product}} today, it should reach you by {{date}}. Your cart: {{cart_link}}

  8. Formal

    Dear {{name}}, thank you for visiting our store. The items in your cart, totalling {{amount}}, are saved for you at {{cart_link}}. Please let us know if we can assist.

Try it with your own list

Upload an Excel or CSV file, write your message and see exactly how it looks before anything is sent.

Second reminder (around 24 hours later)

If there is no reply, one more reminder a day later is reasonable. You can add a reason to buy now – free shipping, a small discount, or genuinely low stock – but only if it is true. After this, stop.

  1. Free shipping

    Hi {{name}}, good news – your cart qualifies for free shipping. Complete your order for {{product}} here: {{cart_link}}

  2. Small discount

    Hi {{name}}, still thinking about {{product}}? Use code {{code}} for 10% off, valid until {{date}}. Your cart: {{cart_link}}

  3. Reviews

    Hi {{name}}, {{product}} is one of our best-rated items – customers love the quality. Your cart is saved here: {{cart_link}}

  4. Low stock (true)

    Hi {{name}}, a quick heads-up: only {{stock}} left of {{product}} in your size. Your cart is still saved: {{cart_link}}

  5. Easy returns

    Hi {{name}}, not sure about {{product}}? We offer free returns within 30 days, so you can try it risk-free. {{cart_link}}

  6. Last note

    Hi {{name}}, this is our last reminder about your cart. We'll keep it saved for a few more days: {{cart_link}}. Thanks for considering us!

  7. Alternative

    Hi {{name}}, if {{product}} wasn't quite right, we have similar styles in other colours. Want me to send a few photos?

Cash on delivery (COD) confirmation messages

In many countries cash-on-delivery orders are often refused at the door. A quick confirmation before you ship – "reply YES to confirm" – cuts failed deliveries and return shipping costs.

  1. Confirm

    Hi {{name}}, thank you for your order {{order_id}} of {{product}}! Total {{amount}}, cash on delivery. Please reply YES to confirm so we can ship it today.

  2. Address check

    Hi {{name}}, before we ship order {{order_id}}, please confirm your delivery address: {{address}}. Reply YES if correct, or send the right one.

  3. Short

    Order {{order_id}}, {{amount}} COD. Reply YES to confirm or NO to cancel. Thanks {{name}}!

  4. No reply

    Hi {{name}}, we haven't heard back about order {{order_id}}. Please reply YES to confirm, or we'll hold it for 24 hours before cancelling.

  5. Prepaid option

    Hi {{name}}, your COD order {{order_id}} is confirmed. Prefer to pay online and skip the cash? Use this link: {{payment_link}}

  6. Out for delivery

    Hi {{name}}, order {{order_id}} is out for delivery today. Please keep {{amount}} ready in cash. Thank you!

  7. Confirmed

    Thanks {{name}}! Order {{order_id}} is confirmed and will be shipped today. We'll send tracking details soon.

Back-in-stock messages

Back-in-stock alerts are the easiest messages to send well, because the customer asked for them. Send them as soon as stock arrives – waiting a few days often means it is gone again.

  1. Back in stock

    Good news, {{name}}! {{product}} is back in stock. You asked us to let you know – here it is: {{link}}

  2. Size

    Hi {{name}}, {{product}} is back in your size ({{size}}). Grab it here: {{link}}

  3. Limited

    Hi {{name}}, {{product}} is back, but this batch is small. Here's the link before it sells out again: {{link}}

  4. Restock + reserve

    Hi {{name}}, {{product}} just arrived. Want us to set one aside for you for 24 hours? Reply YES.

  5. Pre-order

    Hi {{name}}, {{product}} sold out fast, but you can pre-order now for delivery by {{date}}: {{link}}

  6. Short

    {{name}}, it's back! {{product}}: {{link}}

Price drop and sale messages (opted-in customers)

Price drops on items a customer viewed or wishlisted are genuinely useful news. Be precise about the old and new price and the end date.

  1. Price drop

    Hi {{name}}, the price of {{product}} just dropped from {{old_price}} to {{amount}}. Take a look: {{link}}

  2. Wishlist

    Hi {{name}}, an item on your wishlist is now on sale: {{product}}, now {{amount}}. Sale ends {{date}}.

  6. Last day

    Hi {{name}}, the sale ends tonight at midnight. {{product}} is still {{amount}}: {{link}}

Honest urgency: what works and what to avoid

  • Use real reasons only: a stock count you can see, a sale that really ends on a date, a delivery cut-off before a holiday.

  • Never invent countdown timers, fake "5 people are viewing this" lines or prices that "go up tonight" when they don't. It breaks trust and can break consumer-protection laws in many countries.

  • Send no more than two cart reminders per cart. A third feels like nagging.

  • Don't discount the first reminder. Customers learn to abandon carts to get codes.

  • Make opting out easy: "Reply STOP and we won't send reminders". Remove those numbers from your next export.

  • Send in daytime hours in the customer's time zone.

How to send cart reminders from an exported list

Rapid Sender is a free tool for WhatsApp that runs in your browser and sends from your own WhatsApp, one chat per customer, with each name, product and cart link filled in from your sheet. Numbers do not need to be saved in your phone, and any country code works.

It does not connect to your store and cannot send automatically when a cart is abandoned. Instead, export once or twice a day, filter, and send.

  1. 1

    Export abandoned checkouts

    From your store dashboard, export abandoned checkouts (or COD orders, or back-in-stock requests) to CSV or Excel.

  2. 2

    Keep only opted-in customers

    Delete rows without WhatsApp consent and anyone who replied STOP. Make sure columns include name, phone with country code, product, amount and cart_link. Up to 5,000 rows per upload.

  3. 3

    Link your WhatsApp

    Open Rapid Sender, then on your phone go to WhatsApp, Linked devices, Link a device and scan the QR code, or use the pairing code. No install or sign-up.

  4. 4

    Upload and write

    Upload the sheet; column names become placeholders such as {{product}} and {{cart_link}}. Paste a template and check the live preview. You can attach one product photo.

  5. 5

    Test, then send

    Send a test to yourself, then send. Rapid Sender pauses a random 7 to 10 seconds between messages, so 100 reminders take about 16 minutes.

  6. 6

    Read replies and download the report

    Replies arrive in your normal WhatsApp – there is no auto-reply. Download the report as Excel so you don't remind the same cart twice.

Frequently asked questions

What is an abandoned cart WhatsApp message?

A short reminder to a customer who added items to their cart but didn't check out, with a link back to the cart and an offer to help. Send it only to customers who agreed to WhatsApp messages.

When should I send an abandoned cart reminder?

The first reminder 1 to 4 hours after the cart is abandoned, and at most one more about 24 hours later. Stop after that.

Not in the first reminder. If you use one, put it in the second reminder with a real end date, so customers don't learn to abandon carts for codes.

No. Rapid Sender has no store integration, API or automatic triggers. You export abandoned checkouts from your store, filter to opted-in customers and send from the sheet.

Send a confirmation before shipping asking the customer to reply YES, check the address, and offer a prepaid link. Ship only confirmed orders.

It depends on your country's marketing and privacy rules, but the safe baseline is clear consent, honest content and an easy way to opt out. Message only customers who agreed.
